Schools report COVID case numbers

DeSoto County Schools Monday, April 26 released its weekly report on the number of new coronavirus cases and new quarantines in the schools of Mississippi’s largest public school district.  

For the week ending Friday, April 23, there were 10 new COVID-19 cases reported in the district and 91 new students placed in quarantine.  

Of the 10 new cases, Lake Cormorant High School and Lewisburg High School each reported two new cases. There was one each at Center Hill High School, Horn Lake High School, Horn Lake Intermediate, Walls Elementary, Lewisburg Elementary, and Southaven Middle School.  

Walls Elementary had the most number of students placed in quarantine in the past week with 31.  Southaven Intermediate reported 16 new quarantines and there were 12 at Greenbrook Elementary. 

Quarantines were also reported from Center Hill High, Horn Lake Intermediate, Lewisburg High, Lewisburg Elementary, and Southaven Middle.  

Seven staff members in the school district had received a positive COVID-19 test in the past week.

On Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported a state total of 310,987 positive cases of coronavirus in the state and there have been 7,178 related deaths from the virus.  

DeSoto County has totaled 21,217 positive cases and there have been 255 related victims, including one additional victim reported on Monday.
