Parts of Mississippi Under Enhanced Severe-Storm Risk; Tornadoes Possible

Forecasters warned Wednesday, April 28, 2026, that parts of Mississippi were under an enhanced risk — level 3 of 5 — for severe thunderstorms.

They said the primary threats include damaging winds up to 70 mph, golf-ball-size hail and possible tornadoes. Forecasters added that a strong tornado cannot be ruled out.

Officials urged residents to stay weather-aware throughout the day and to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather radios and emergency alerts.

Forecasters advised people to know their safe place in advance and to follow any warnings or instructions issued by local authorities.
