Olive Branch Police Activate Inclement Weather Policy, Outline Crash Reporting Procedures

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — The Olive Branch Police Department has activated its inclement weather policy as hazardous road conditions impact the area, urging motorists to use extreme caution and limit travel whenever possible.

Under the policy, police are changing how certain traffic crashes are handled to allow officers to focus on emergencies and life-threatening situations during dangerous weather.

If a crash occurs and there are no injuries, no suspected drugs or alcohol involvement, and no vehicle needs to be towed, drivers will not need an officer to respond to the scene. Instead, those involved should exchange the following information:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Insurance information
  • Vehicle tag numbers

Drivers are also encouraged to take photos of the vehicles and the crash scene for documentation.

Both drivers must then arrange a date and time to meet at the Olive Branch Police Department, located at 10470 MS-178, to file an official crash report within 10 business days of the accident. When reporting, drivers must bring:

  • Their vehicle
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle registration
  • Proof of insurance

For scheduling or questions, the Olive Branch Police Department can be reached at (662) 892-9400.

However, if a crash involves injuries, suspected impairment, or a vehicle that must be towed, motorists should immediately call 911 or (662) 895-4111 so first responders can be dispatched.

Police stress that the policy is designed to keep both the public and emergency crews safe during severe weather.

“Your safety is our top priority,” the department said in a statement. “We urge everyone to remain weather-aware, use extreme caution on roadways, and avoid unnecessary travel.”

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and delay travel until roads improve.
