Olive Branch meter reader honored after saving colleague
Mayor Ken Adams and the Olive Branch Board of Aldermen presented the Mayor’s Award for April to Meter Reader Supervisor Sherrie Bowen, the board said.
On March 9, Bowen noticed a fellow team member who appeared confused, disoriented and was experiencing a severe problem with his eye, the board said. She immediately transported him to a local primary care provider, who referred him to a hospital for emergency treatment, the board said.
Doctors later determined the worker had a brain bleed and a stroke affecting his eye, and hospital staff told city officials that without immediate intervention his chances of survival would have been extremely limited, the board said.
The employee told the board he believes Bowen’s quick actions saved his life. The board said Bowen’s compassion, leadership and willingness to act in a critical moment exemplify the spirit of the Mayor’s Award.
