The Vicki Earl Phillips DeSoto Arts Council scholarship is awarded in honor of an amazing art teacher, Vicki Earl Phillips, who dedicated her life to inspiring young students to develop their artistic talents.
This scholarship continues her work by helping young artists pursue their dreams of going into the creative field.
This year the DeSoto Arts Council awards the scholarship to Juliana Ohrberg, a Lewisburg high school graduate with outstanding artistic abilities.
Juliana was recommended by her art teacher, Kathleen Downing, and was chosen not only for artistic talent but also her incredible dedication to going to the college of her dreams by having an amazing work ethic, working several jobs to save up to pay for tuition, and achieving high GPA and ACT scores. These criteria made her the perfect candidate for this scholarship.
The scholarship is one of the many ways the Art Council supports the arts in DeSoto County and increases arts awareness.
