Northwest student Tony Moore receives Metallica Scholars Initiative support
Tony Moore, a sophomore HVAC student from Memphis, Tennessee, is among Northwest Mississippi Community College’s recipients of the Metallica Scholars Initiative, the college said in a post. Moore is pursuing heating, ventilation and air conditioning studies and is expected to complete his schooling in May 2027.
The Metallica Scholars Initiative is a workforce education program established by the band’s foundation, All Within My Hands, in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges. The initiative provides grants and support to community colleges across the country for career and technical education and trade programs.
Moore said the scholarship has affected his educational journey by showing him that people outside his family want him to succeed. He said that support pushes him every day.
Moore chose HVAC because he values the hands-on work and the opportunity to solve changing problems. He described the field as mentally and physically challenging, adding that its difficulty can be fun.
Moore said he is highly motivated and excited to continue his HVAC journey. “If I have a goal, I am going to reach that goal no matter the trials or difficulties,” he said.
