New principals named at DCS schools

DeSoto County Schools attendance centers will have new principals leading their buildings during the 2021-22 school year. The new additions and changes were announced at the Thursday, May 6 DeSoto County School District Board of Education meeting.

The new principals named at four locations are as follows: 

• Helen Wright will be the new principal at Greenbrook Elementary School. Mrs. Wright has served as assistant principal at Overpark Elementary School for four years. She will replace Cynthia Dixon who will be the new principal at Lewisburg Elementary School.

• Andrew Edwards will be the new principal at Horn Lake Middle School.  Mr. Edwards has served as assistant principal at Lake Cormorant Middle School for four years. He will replace Nick Toungett who will be the new principal at Horn Lake High School.

• April Rucker will be the new principal at Lake Cormorant Elementary School. Mrs. Rucker has served as assistant principal at Southaven Intermediate School for three years.  She will replace Kristy Dunning who will be the new principal at Lewisburg Intermediate School.

• Shameka Bradley will be the new principal at Southaven Elementary School. Mrs. Bradley has served as assistant principal at Southaven High School for three years. She will replace Christy Upchurch who will be the new principal at Olive Branch Elementary School.

Current principals moving to new locations in the district are as follows:

• Leighanne Wamble will be the new principal at DeSoto Central Primary School.  Mrs. Wamble has served as principal of Olive Branch Elementary School for four years.  She will replace Colleen Long who will be retiring in June.
• Nick Toungett will be the new principal at Horn Lake High School. Mr. Toungett has served as principal of Horn Lake Middle School for seven years.  He will replace Paul Chrestman who served as interim principal during the spring semester.
• Christy Upchurch will be the new principal at Olive Branch Elementary School. Mrs. Upchurch has served as principal of Southaven Elementary School for nine years.  She will replace Leighanne Wamble who will be the new principal at DeSoto Central Primary School.
• Cynthia Dixon will be the new principal at Lewisburg Elementary School. Mrs. Dixon has served as principal of Greenbrook Elementary School for two years.  She will replace Sherry Anderson who has a career opportunity in the business sector. Beginning in August, Lewisburg Elementary School will serve students in second grade and third grade.
• Kristy Dunning will be the new principal at Lewisburg Intermediate School. Mrs. Dunning has served as principal of Lake Cormorant Elementary School for two years. Beginning in August, Lewisburg Intermediate School will serve students in fourth grade and fifth grade in the current Lewisburg Middle School building.
