Mudbug Bash benefits Palmer Home mission to children
The mudbugs will be readily available when the Palmer Home holds its 21st Mudbug Bash presented by Sky Lake Construction, also what some might call the “Party with a Purpose.”
Palmer Home Events Coordinator Molly Coleman said that the Memphis Crawfish Company has provided the tasty delicacy for 20 years and will have nearly 2,000 pounds for Saturday’s event, held between 6-10 p.m.
For the 500 guests who have bought tickets, they’ll enjoy good food, great music, take part in a silent auction, and be able to enjoy an evening that benefits the faith-based, nonprofit organization that provides care and support to children in need.
“All of the money comes back to the Palmer Home and it goes to our operations budget to fund everything we need to raise the kids we have on our campus,” Coleman said. “People are coming and they’re giving back. We call it ‘Party with a Purpose,’ with people coming and they’re giving back, coming out and having a good time but while they’re having fun, they can know that they are changing the life of a child. That’s really the purpose of the party.”
Music will be provided by the band, “Aces Wild,” an energetic country and rock band based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Their repertoire spans country music, southern rock, and R&B classics, aiming to keep audiences engaged and on their feet.
Before the music starts, Palmer Home President and CEO Drake Bassett will introduce a video and talk about the mission of the home.
Coleman said many have embraced the mission of the organization but Hernando continues to actively support the campus.
“We have a lot of church groups and community groups that will come to campus and do service projects,” Coleman said. “The city gives us usage of the street at no cost. They just completely wrap their arms around Palmer Home and around the mission of us serving our children.”
Palmer Home was founded in Columbus, Mississippi in 1895. Land was purchased on Baldwin Road in 1990 and today the campus features cottage-style homes, a chapel, and the Dr. Hugh Francis, Jr. Wellness Center—a 25,000 square-foot facility offering classrooms, counseling suites, therapy rooms, and recreational areas.
Tickets for Mudbug Bash are available through the Palmer Home website.
