Mississippi to display five winning ‘Star-Spangled’ signs; officials urge drivers to use turn signals

Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and the Olive Branch Police Department said five winning entries from the Star-Spangled Sign Contest will be displayed on Mississippi highways starting Friday as part of America250 Mississippi celebrations.

The officials said the entries combine patriotic themes, wordplay and safety reminders, and that the digital signs will light up state roadways through the holiday weekend.

Adams and the police department said the kickoff message includes a historical reference and a reminder that using turn signals should not be considered a revolutionary act. They said the point is to prompt safer driving.

They urged motorists to use their blinkers before turning or changing lanes this weekend and year-round, saying other drivers cannot anticipate their actions.
