Marshall Academy has announced the passing of a baseball player who died in a one-car accident Friday morning.

The player, identified as Cutter Crass, died in the accident as he headed to school for practice. The school made the announcement on its Facebook page.

The sheriff’s department reported that the accident took place on Duck Pond Road near state Highway 7 about 9:40 a.m. Crass was the only person involved in the crash.

Crass, of Olive Branch, played for Olive Branch High School before transferring to Marshall Academy for the 2023-24 season.

Several schools have responded with words of encouragement for Marshall Academy and the baseball program. Center Hill was to play Marshall Academy on Saturday, March 9, but the baseball team announced that Saturday’s game had been canceled.
