Aug. 23, 2024 – The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Tennessee Friday announced that a man from DeSoto County has been charged with making threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama.
United States Attorney Kevin G. Ritz says that on July 27, Kyl Alton Hall, age 37, made numerous posts on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
In the news release, Hall is identified as being a Memphis-area man. Other reports say he is from DeSoto County but no specific address has been given.
Note: We searched for Kyl Alton Hall on X and found an account that matched his name with an image of his license card. The address on the license card is Southaven.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Hall made posts where he allegedly threatened to kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane of President Joe Biden; assassinate Vice President Kamala Harris; and assassinate former President Barack Obama.
A federal indictment returned on Aug. 20 charged Hall with two counts of threats to a sitting President and Vice President in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871(a), and one count of a threat to a former President under Section 879(a)(1). Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.
The United States Secret Service investigated this case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Will Crow of the National Security and Civil Rights Unit in the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The charges and allegations contained in the indictment are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
