Horn Lake Police Host Coffee with a Cop on Oct. 7
Residents who have a question for local officers, an idea for their neighborhood, or just want a free cup of coffee will have a chance this week. The Horn Lake Coffee with a Cop event is set for Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the McDonald’s at 1512 Goodman Road, according to an announcement from the Horn Lake Police Department.
The department described the morning as low-key and open to everyone. In its post, the department said there is “no agenda” and “no formal meeting,” just coffee, conversation and a chance to get to know officers outside of an emergency or a traffic stop.

Part of National Coffee with a Cop Day
Oct. 7 is National Coffee with a Cop Day, which is observed each year on the first Wednesday in October. Police departments across the country use the day to hold informal gatherings in coffee shops and restaurants where residents can talk with officers one-on-one.
The flyer from Horn Lake police calls the event “a great opportunity” for the community to meet local officers in an informal setting, talk about concerns, share ideas and ask questions. For residents, it is a chance to put names and faces with the officers who patrol their streets. For officers, it is a chance to hear directly about the issues people care about most, from traffic and speeding to neighborhood safety.
Other DeSoto County Departments Taking Part
Horn Lake is not the only DeSoto County city marking the day. The Southaven Police Department has also announced a Coffee with a Cop gathering on Oct. 7, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the McDonald’s at 65 Goodman Road in Southaven. Residents who live near the city line can choose whichever location is more convenient.
Community events like this have become a regular part of policing in DeSoto County, where departments also host citizen police academies, school visits and holiday events throughout the year.
Residents with questions about the event can contact the Horn Lake Police Department through its Facebook page or by calling the department’s non-emergency line. For emergencies, always call 911.
