A recent law enforcement saturation effort proved successful during the July 4 holiday period, according to a social media post from the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said 48 narcotics, DUI and fugitive arrests were made during the holiday by deputies and the department’s Whiskey Unit.

Deputies were part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s High Visibility Enforcement and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. High visibility saturation patrols and safety checkpoints were conducted at various locations throughout unincorporated DeSoto County, as well as incorporated areas of the county.

During the saturation effort, several impaired drivers were taken off the roads.
