June 13, 2025 – On Saturday, organized demonstrations are planned across the country protesting actions and policies of President Donald Trump. DeSoto County is not being left out, as what is being termed a “visibility event” will be held at the Courthouse in Hernando.
Between 3-4 p.m., the groups called Indivisible DeSoto and Indivisible MS NW will be visible in front of the courthouse. Organizers say NO KINGS is a day of action in response to what is termed “the authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration.”
“I’m doing this because, as a former U.S. History and Government Teacher, I am appalled and dismayed by the dismantling of our Constitution, institutions and protections by the Trump administration,” said Erin McElyea, Chair of the Visibility Committee of Indivisible DeSoto MS. “I want to raise awareness about what is happening to our government, because Americans are being exposed to false narratives.”
Nationally, between 1,500-2,000 demonstrations are scheduled for Saturday. Organized by the 50501 Movement (“50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement”), these peaceful actions protest authoritarianism, executive overreach, and the militarization of public life.
Their slogan: “No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”. Supporters are advocating democracy, non-violent civil expression, and de‑escalation—no weapons, with plain‑clothes marshals present.
