Governments to meet on Tuesday

Tuesday will be a busy day for county and city governments with the Board of Supervisors and all of the Boards of Aldermen all meeting on the same day due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.  

Tuesday morning, the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors will meet at 9 a.m. DeSoto County Economic Development Council Executive Director Jim Flanagan will provide a report. A report on COVID-19 statistics and trends will be provided by EMS Director Mark Davis and a report on testing sites is also to be expected to be heard.  

Tuesday will also have two public hearings regarding changes in renaming some Agricultural-Residential zones to Residential Estate zones. The proposed changes recently caused some push back on social media from residents worried about what the changes would mean for their properties.  The first hearing will be at 1 p.m. with another hearing scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The Southaven Board of Aldermen will meet Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Aldermen will be asked to approve authorization to seek bids for the Getwell Road South widening project.

Horn Lake aldermen are being asked during their meeting Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. to approve payment of a pay estimate to Xcavators Inc. for the Tulane Bridge replacement in the amount of $153,779.55. Aldermen will also be asked to approve the purchase of a Diamond Mower Skid Steer 60′ rotary cutter. The Hope Community Center also is asking for the use of Latimer Lakes Park for a 5K run on April 2.

Olive Branch aldermen will be asked to approve cost sharing related to the DeSoto County Economic Development Council’s lobbying efforts in the 2022 Mississippi legislative session.  Aldermen will also be asked to approve lobbying services agreements for the legislative session regarding proposed local and private legislation.  There will be consideration of a resolution directing the issuance of general obligation public improvement bonds in the amount of $5 million to raise money for authorized purposes.

Hernando board members at 6 p.m. Tuesday will vote to award the Hernando West Sewer Project bid to Argo Construction Co. as the lowest/best bid of $486,644.00. Aldermen will be asked to accept the low quote of $19,110.00 from Premier Lawn and Turf to perform weed control and fertilization to the athletic fields this year. The board will also be asked to approve applying for grant funding from the Recreational Trails Project for phase II of the skate park located at Renasant Park.
