Who Is Rodney Atkins?

Atkins, a Tennessee native, became one of country radio’s most dependable hitmakers in the 2000s. His No. 1 songs include “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows),” “Watching You,” “These Are My People” and “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy).” Later hits include “Take a Back Road” and “It’s America.” His catalog of feel-good, family-friendly country songs makes the show a good fit for a weeknight outing.

A Busy October at Snowden Grove

The free concert comes during a packed stretch for the Southaven amphitheater and for DeSoto County entertainment in general. Discover DeSoto lists The Hayley Williams Show at BankPlus Amphitheater on Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. The Mid-South Fair also wraps up its run at Southaven’s Landers Center on Sunday, Oct. 11.

BankPlus Amphitheater sits inside the Snowden Grove park complex off Getwell Road. The city-owned venue has become one of the Mid-South’s main outdoor concert stages since it opened. Southaven aldermen took up an amphitheater contract at their Oct. 6 meeting.

Tips for Concertgoers

  • Arrive early. Free shows often fill up, and Snowden Grove traffic can back up near the park entrance.
  • Check the forecast. Forecasters have been watching a tropical system in the Gulf that could bring rain to the Mid-South this weekend. Conditions for Thursday, Oct. 15, are still uncertain.
  • Confirm venue rules on chairs, blankets, bags and outside food before you go.
