Dream Center celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week

The DeSoto County Dream Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Title 1 school students and their families in DeSoto County, expressed appreciation recently to employees and teachers with DeSoto County Schools and Northpoint Christian School during Teacher Appreciation Week.

The DeSoto County Dream Center, through a donation from Homer Skelton Charitable Foundation, was able to provide the 5,000 staff members of the schools with a Max Lucado devotional book, “Calm Moments for Anxious Days” and a $50 gift card from a locally-owned restaurant. This served as a blessing not only for the staff but also for these restaurants, as well.

Approximately 60 volunteers came to the Dream Center, packed the gifts, and prayed for those receiving the gifts. The following day, staff and a few volunteers delivered these gifts.

One of DeSoto County Dream Center’s pillars is Education. This is the Dream Center’s second year to be the PTO for three DeSoto County Schools:  Magnolia School, DeSoto County Alternative Center and Juvenile Detention Center. The Dream Center takes care of these schools monthly during the school year but also we provided a special treat each day of Teacher Appreciation Week:

  • Monday – donuts
  • Tuesday – survival kit
  • Wednesday – cookies
  • Thursday – devotional & gift card
  • Friday – smoothies
