DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II named Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Thomas E. Tuggle II, sheriff of DeSoto County, was named the American Legion Department of Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2026, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office said.
The American Legion Department of Mississippi said the award recognizes an officer who exemplifies exceptional service through community involvement, professional excellence and dedication to protecting and serving others.
Tuggle was selected from 87 nominees representing law enforcement agencies across Mississippi, the sheriff’s office said. The office said the choice reflects Tuggle’s leadership, mentorship and commitment to the safety and well-being of DeSoto County residents.
As Mississippi’s recipient, Tuggle will advance to the national competition in Indianapolis, where he will represent the state alongside 424 nominees from across the country, the sheriff’s office said.
