Justice Courts in DeSoto County have jurisdiction over small claims civil cases involving $3,500 or less, misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic offenses occurring in the county that involve the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department or the Highway Patrol, according to DeSoto County Government.
The courts’ judges also sign warrants, set bonds and conduct preliminary hearings in felony criminal cases. They issue temporary protective orders and search warrants, the county government says.
