Deputy struck by car on interstate

A DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department deputy is being treated at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis after he was struck by a car on I-269 Friday night.

In a release, the Sheriff’s Department reported the unidentified deputy had stopped on the interstate near the Laughter Road exit about 8:30 p.m. Friday to provide assistance.  

The department stated there was debris on the eastbound lanes of I-269 just east of the exit. The deputy was assisting motorists and helping to change a tire when he was struck. He was airlifted to Regional One with injuries to both legs. 

Identities of the people involved have also not been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
