Business beat: Southaven welcomes Walk-On’s
Mar 23, 2025- March Madness is typically a good time to head to your nearest sports bar and grill to follow your favorite team. A new place to do that has opened in Southaven and likely was pretty busy this past weekend as the second round of the NCAA tournament played out.
Walk-On’s has opened its newest sports bar and grill as part of the Top of the ‘Sip development on Snowden Lane near the Snowden Grove Soccer Complex.
Walk-On’s was founded by Brandon Landry, a former LSU basketball walk-on, in 2003. It gained national recognition in 2012 when ESPN declared it “America’s Top Sports Bar.” There are now nearly 100 locations that try to be a family-friendly spot offering a Louisiana-inspired menu. That menu includes unique items, like gumbo and beignets.
“All sports bars have TVs and beers on tap and burgers and wings, right?” Landry said. “I think what we really focus on is being family-friendly. We attract families, kinds, Little League teams, churches, you name it.”
Landry, who was in Southaven for the grand opening, said local interest and its proximity to the Snowden Grove Park complex for soccer and baseball were factors in coming to DeSoto County.
Franchise partners Eddie and Allen Gant, who grew up in north Mississippi, will operate the Southaven bar and grill.
“We signed up for six restaurants with Starkville being our first,” Eddie Gant said. “We were contacted by the developer here to tell us about what he was doing and this seemed like a match made in heaven for us.”
