Body found believed to be Tunica shooting suspect
July 15, 2025 – Tunica County authorities say they believe they have found the body of a suspect in a fatal shooting case from Friday, July 11 in Robinsonville.
Deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service Monday afternoon discovered a body in a wooded area behind residences in Soleil Drive in Robinsonville.
Officials, using information from the investigation and the location where the body was located, say they believe the remains are that of Markell Braxton, age 41. The remains are being sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for positive identification.
Braxton was being sought in a Friday evening shooting incident where shots were fired at 1060 Soleil Drive in Robinsonville.
Deputies responding to a 911 call found three victims with gunshot wounds and one victim, Nykeria Jude, age 30, was declared dead by the Tunica County coroner.
Two other victims, a 24-year-old black male and a six-year-old black female, were airlifted to Regional One Health and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, respectively, in Memphis for treatment of gunshot wounds.
The investigation is continuing into the incident as we await positive identification of the body found in the woods near the shooting on Friday.
