Batesville board names Barry Thompson police chief as Dennis Darby retires
The Batesville Board of Aldermen voted 4-1 in an executive session Tuesday to name Barry Thompson the city’s new police chief, The Panolian reported.
Chief Dennis Darby is retiring, The Panolian said. The newspaper reported that Darby’s leadership, commitment and years of service left a lasting impact on the department and the community.
The Panolian described Thompson as a veteran Panola County lawman. According to the newspaper, Thompson said he looks forward to serving the community, supporting officers and staff, and building on the department’s existing foundation.
The Panolian reported that members of the community and the department were asked to join in thanking Darby for his service and to welcome Thompson into his new role.
