Arrest made for stolen gun possession in Southaven

A man has been arrested with possession of a stolen firearm and several other charges after an incident Sunday afternoon, April 16 in Southaven. 

Police report officers were called to the South Park Garden Apartments about 2:25 p.m. when an armed person was seen standing in the parking lot.  

On arrival, officers observed the suspect fleeing on foot carrying an AR-style pistol. The suspect disappeared near Coventry Cove, which led to a perimeter being set up. A lengthy search began with the use of police K-9 dogs and drones being involved.  

After a little more than three hours, the suspect was located inside a vacant home on Claiborne Drive, where he surrendered without incident.  He has been identified as Dietrich Neal.

No other suspects are outstanding in the incident, according to police.
