Arrest and charges against driver of stolen ambulance

The person who drove an ambulance into Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven this week has been arrested and charged. Southaven police said Kandanice Stevenson Thursday was being held. Stevenson is charged with:

• Taking away a motor vehicle
• Disturbance in public place
• Malicious mischief felony
• Aggravated assault

Officials say an ambulance was driven into Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven Wednesday morning and crashed into the building at the emergency entrance area. There were minor injuries to one staff member.

A hospital statement said patients, visitors and staff are safe. Damage to the emergency department is being assessed.
