Hernando is getting ready to host the 49th annual A’Fair Arts and Crafts Festival on the Courthouse Square this Saturday.
The popular, one-day festival features arts and crafts vendors, the Laurie Wylie Memorial 5K, entertainment from great local musicians, and lots of fair food favorites. Admission and parking are free.
A’Fair was started in 1974 and is known for featuring the work of the Mid-South’s best artisans. This year’s offerings will include woodcraft, iron craft, handcrafted pottery, watercolor and oil paintings, photography, sewn and embroidered items, jewelry, baked goods, pet treats and everything in between.
Artist & Crafter Booths will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Artists and crafters booths are located in the parking area around the Hernando Courthouse and along Commerce Street west to the Hernando City Hall.
A’Fair kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with the Laurie L. Wylie Memorial 5K Race. Registration is held on Center Street in the Trustmark Bank parking lot.
A’Fair’s Kids Zone will have activities including face painting, bouncy houses, games and all kinds of things to do with the family. A’Fair Kids Zone is located on Commerce Street in front of City Hall.
Food options such as corn dogs, burgers, barbecue, homemade ice cream, and more will be available. Food vendors are located in front of the Hernando Courthouse along Highway 51 and on Panola Street on the south side of the courthouse. Tables and chairs are available.
A’Fair is organized and presented by the Optimist Club of Hernando, a non-profit organization that supports youth programs and school groups in the local community. This event is the only fundraiser for the organization.
