DeSoto County officials said a tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Monday and urged residents to remain weather aware and have a safe place to shelter.

Community safe rooms will open across DeSoto County this afternoon as a precaution against severe weather. Residents are encouraged to use these shelters if they feel more comfortable than staying at home.

Local officials said a tornado watch was issued Sunday and will remain in effect until 11 p.m. CDT. A community safe room at 7312 Highway 51 has been opened to residents for the duration of the watch.

The Storm Prediction Center placed the area under an enhanced risk of severe storms on March 15, 2026. Local officials urged residents to prepare for a fast-moving line of storms expected between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
