Vaccine appointments for children being accepted

The Mississippi State Department of Health said it will begin scheduling COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 after 7 p.m. Friday for appointments beginning Monday, Nov. 8. 

Appointments may be made online at www.covidvaccine.umc.edu for all county health departments, including DeSoto County.  

Appointments can also be made by calling the COVID-19 hotline at 866-498-4948 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

Vaccinations for all Mississippians aged five and older can also be found from other providers including healthcare providers, FQHCs, independent and retail pharmacies.

About 51,000 doses of vaccine for the age group have been ordered and they were to be arriving at county health departments and other healthcare providers this week. 

The vaccine is the Pfizer vaccine and about one-third of the normal adult dosage.
