Second Military Aircraft Based in Mississippi Crashes This Month
A second military aircraft connected to a Mississippi training base has crashed this month, with the latest incident reported Tuesday, May 26, near the Kemper-Noxubee County line.
According to early reports, a Navy training jet from Naval Air Station Meridian crashed near Highway 45 in the Kemper County area. Two pilots reportedly ejected from the aircraft and were later secured by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. No injuries have been reported.
Additional details about the crash have not yet been released, and the cause remains unknown.
The incident comes just two weeks after another military training aircraft based in Mississippi crashed near the state line.
On May 12, two pilots safely ejected from a T-38 Talon II aircraft during a flight from Columbus Air Force Base. That aircraft crashed in rural Lamar County, Alabama, near the Mississippi border.
Columbus Air Force Base said at the time that the cause of the crash was unknown and would be investigated by a Safety Investigation Board.
Columbus Air Force Base, located in Lowndes County, is home to the 14th Flying Training Wing, part of Air Education and Training Command’s 19th Air Force. The wing trains pilots on aircraft including the T-6 Texan II, T-38C Talon and T-1A Jayhawk.
The latest crash near Kemper County remains under investigation. More information is expected to be released as officials provide updates.
