School supply tax-free holiday extended

July 8 – Mississippi’s school supply sales tax holiday is around the corner and a time when shoppers can save major bucks in getting kids back to school supplies and clothing.

Senate Bill 2470 extends the Sales tax holiday from two days to three days, removing sales tax on school supplies, and individual items of clothing and foot apparel costing less than $100 each. It also sets the date of the Sales Tax Holiday to the second weekend of July, being the days of Friday, July 12 through Sunday, July 14.

“Now that many schools in Mississippi have gone to a modified calendar, this will allow many shoppers to get their school supplies before school actually starts,” said the bill’s author, Sen. Walter Michel (R-Ridgeland).
