JACKSON, Miss. – Santa Claus and his world‑famous team of reindeer have received official clearance to enter Mississippi on Christmas Eve, following the approval of a certificate of veterinary inspection by the Mississippi Board of Animal Health (MBAH). The authorization ensures Santa’s annual gift‑delivery route will include stops across the Magnolia State on December 24, 2025.

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced the approval with holiday cheer.

“I am happy to announce that Santa’s reindeer have officially been cleared for their annual Christmas Eve visit by the Mississippi Board of Animal Health,” Gipson said. “It’s always a pleasure to welcome Santa and his reindeer to the Magnolia State, and I encourage all children to be tucked in early so Santa can deliver his gifts without delay.”

State Veterinarian Dr. James Watson conducted the full health inspection of all nine reindeer—Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph—confirming they are healthy, energetic, and ready for their long night of work. With all requirements satisfied, Dr. Watson issued the special certification allowing Santa’s sleigh to travel freely throughout Mississippi.

“Safeguarding the health of Mississippi’s livestock and poultry is our top priority,” Dr. Watson said. “With that responsibility in mind, we are happy to confirm that Santa Claus and his reindeer have satisfied all necessary health requirements to enter the state and spread Christmas cheer to the boys and girls on the nice list.”

The MBAH also encouraged families to leave out refreshments for Santa—and a small snack for his hardworking reindeer—on Christmas Eve.

Created by the Mississippi Legislature, the Board of Animal Health is responsible for preventing, controlling, and eradicating contagious and infectious diseases affecting animals statewide. The board works closely with the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) and operates from MDAC headquarters in Jackson. More information is available at www.mbah.ms.gov.
