Roadways reported safe for holidays in Mississippi

The Christmas holiday period was a relatively safe one on Mississippi roadways as only fatality was reported during the period from Saturday, Dec. 23 at 6 a.m. to Monday, Dec. 25 at 12 midnight.  

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, 2,544 citations were issued, troopers made 78 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 144 crashes resulting in 31 injuries, with one fatal crash and one death. The deadly crash occurred in Covington County. 

On Saturday, Dec. 23, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 37 in Covington County. 

A 2006 Honda Accord driven by Deyounta Clark, age 29 of Mount Olive traveled north on Highway 37 when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. 

Clark received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
