Officials update COVID-19 numbers

The Mississippi State Department of Health Thursday reported an additional 3,138 positive cases of coronavirus in the state, making for a total of 458,420 cases since the pandemic began. 

MSDH also had 83 additional death reports for a total of 8,870 for the pandemic.  

In DeSoto County, there were two more death reports recorded from COVID-19. The county has recorded 28,734 cases and 330 deaths.

According to a new report from 24/7WallSt.com using Centers for Disease Control figures, as of Sept. 3 there were 188,728 coronavirus cases in the six-county Memphis metropolitan area, including Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. That’s 14,021 cases per 100,000 population.  

Of the six counties, Fayette County had the highest per capita number of cases at 15,870. DeSoto County was third among the metro counties at 15,616 cases per 100,000 population.  The complete report is found at the 24/7 Wall St. website
