Northwest’s Steinman completes Canvas Certified Technical Admin Program
By Sarah Smith, Northwest Mississippi Community College
This summer, Northwest Mississippi Community College eLearning’s Technology Specialist, Kim Steinman, completed the Canvas Certified Technical Admin Program (CCTA).
The program was a three-course program set up to help users better understand the administrative side of Canvas, and functions.
“This program became available last spring, and Kim was in the second cohort offered this summer,” said Northwest Dean of eLearning, Angel Nickens. “She is the first in the Mississippi Community College system to complete the program.”
Nickens explained that some of these projects were fairly intense, and pushed Steinman out of her comfort zone, but helped her better understand and learn more about the admin side of Canvas. Steinman said that the most rewarding part was getting the admin documentation finished.
“The third course began as we were starting the fall semester this year,” Steinman said. “This is the busiest time in eLearning.”
Steinman said that now it’s something she can pass on to whoever comes after her, and she’s learned how to use Application Programming Interface (API) which she said were challenging to learn, but very rewarding. This function helps her pull data from Canvas in bulk.
Steinman said she’s gotten the opportunity to meet new people through this program, and it helped her learn from different people in various in institutions. She said she felt blessed by these new friendships, and she thinks they’ve all learned a lot from each other.
