Pinkins endorsed by state Democratic women
Ty Pinkins, Democratic candidate for Mississippi Secretary of State Wednesday, Sept. 27 received the endorsement of The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women (MFDW).
The MFDW recruits Democratic candidates to run for political office and supports the Mississippi Democratic Party with Get Out the Vote activities to win elections at every level of government.
“The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women is honored to endorse Ty Pinkins for Secretary of State,” said Lovie West, President of the Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women. “He is a self-made man of integrity, high moral values, and understands the daily barriers faced by the poor citizens of Mississippi.”
Pinkins, a Rolling Fork native, and resident of Vicksburg, accepted the nomination for Democratic candidate for Mississippi Secretary of State in early September, putting him as the party’s challenge to Republican incumbent Michael Watson. Pinkins was tabbed when Shuwaski Young had to withdraw to deal with personal health issues. Pinkins has also declared an interest as a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2024.
Pinkins is an attorney, a veteran (21 years in the US Army, three tours of combat in Iraq, awarded the Bronze Star), an author, and a former Presidential Communications Aide to both Democratic and Republican Presidents.
“I am truly thankful for the support and trust The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women has extended towards my campaign,” said Pinkins. “An endorsement of this magnitude is tremendous. The resources this organization offers will strengthen our reach to voters and help to ensure that all Mississippians know that they have a solid choice as it relates to the Secretary of State’s office.”
Pinkins’ top priorities, if elected, are to address issues surrounding the lack of an online voter registration system, same-day voter registration, and absentee voting for any reason. He also seeks to reinstitute the ballot initiative and supports the overturning of Mississippi’s felony disenfranchisement law.
“Mississippi deserves a modern, efficient, and inclusive voting system. A system that ensures every Mississippian—whether they live in Jackson, Biloxi, or Tupelo…or in Nanih Waiya, Anguilla, or Hot Coffee—feels seen, heard, and valued,” said Pinkins.
