Mississippi Insurance Department Launches AI Tool “Janie” to Assist Consumers

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) has introduced a new artificial intelligence assistant, “Janie,” designed to help consumers file complaints against insurance companies more quickly and easily.

The service, offered through Entratus.ai, allows consumers to call 601-843-6925 and provide details about their issue. Janie then collects key information — such as name, address, insurance provider, and policy details — and submits a completed complaint form to MID on the caller’s behalf.

If additional documents, such as bills or records, are required, consumers must email them within two days.

Once a complaint is filed, state regulations require insurance companies to respond in writing within 20 working days.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney emphasized that the new AI service will supplement, not replace, traditional methods of filing complaints.

“This option will not replace the traditional means of speaking to a live representative,” Chaney said. “We aren’t replacing people here at the MID. You’ll still be able to talk to a real-life person or file through email, fax, or regular mail.”

For general insurance questions or claim assistance, consumers can call 601-359-3569, email consumer@mid.ms.gov, or visit www.mid.ms.gov.
