McRae: Standing with Trump and DOGE
By Treasurer David McRae
I understand why so many Mississippians are frustrated with Washington – I am too! The woke waste is breaking government and breaking the banks of hardworking taxpayers.
On Jan. 20, however, President Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as President of the United States for the second time, and with his swearing in will be the dawn of a new way of governing in Washington.
Chief among the changes President Trump has promised is the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, DOGE has been charged with slashing the size, scope, and cost of government. I can think of no two people who are better equipped to do that than Musk and Ramaswamy.
While I don’t know Musk personally, I have worked hand-in-hand with Ramaswamy to combat the radical Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) movement in recent years. For those who aren’t familiar with it, ESG prioritizes liberal agendas over jobs and economic prosperity. I have seen Ramaswamy’s values and energy in action, and I am fully confident he can help carry out Trump’s America First Agenda through DOGE.
Like President Trump, I cut my teeth in the private sector, so I share his aversion to a bloated and broken federal government. In Mississippi, we have long spent taxpayer dollars sparingly in order to leave more money in the hands of hardworking families. We balance our budget. We invest wisely. And we avoid woke waste. It’s time that Washington did the same.
Additionally, I represent Mississippi on the Compact for a Balanced Budget Commission, which advocates for introducing a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I see DOGE’s mission as critical to the goal of a balanced budget. To put it simply, America doesn’t have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem. And to cut spending, we have to cut the size of government. That is what DOGE was established to do.
As DOGE works, I will work here at home to make sure your Treasury operates as efficiently and effectively as possible. We will continue to return record-breaking amounts of unclaimed money (of which our team has already returned $120 million), pay our bills on time, protect the state’s strong credit rating, and invest funds wisely to lift the burden on taxpayers. We will be part of the solution.
I join so many across our state in celebrating the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump this week. I look forward to what he will accomplish in the years ahead and stand ready to assist wherever possible. May God bless him this week and throughout his presidency.
