Man’s body found near Arkabutla Lake identified
Aug. 3, 2025 – The Tate County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man whose body was discovered near Arkabutla Lake on Friday.
According to a news release from Sheriff Luke Shepherd, the individual was identified as Anthony Peavy, age 32 of Batesville. His body was found on property adjacent to the lake.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, along with representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, secured the scene and began processing evidence immediately after the discovery. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation. An autopsy will be performed by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Shepherd said the department is actively investigating all circumstances surrounding Peavy’s death. The Sheriff’s Office has extended its condolences to his family and is asking for patience from the community as they work to determine the facts of the case.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Peavy’s whereabouts in the time leading up to his death, or who may have seen anything unusual in the Arkabutla Lake area recently, to contact the Tate County Sheriff’s Office at 662-562-4434.
