Kidnapping, burglary charges face trio after child abduction

Charges are being filed against three adults connected with the kidnapping of three children ranging in age from two-to-eight years old from a home near Tupelo.  

The three children were earlier reported as kidnapped by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, stating in a news release that Douglas Mills, age 52, identified as the biological father of the three youngsters, had entered the home and taken the children from their mother.

In the news release, the Sheriff’s Department said Mills had brandished a gun threatening the mother.

Wednesday, it was reported that Mills and two others had been captured in Tennessee near the Kentucky state line.  

Mills will be charged with three counts of kidnapping and one count of burglary, while Vanessa Cox and Shelia Hood will be charged with one count of kidnapping.

The arrests came after the trio, along with the kidnapped children, were stopped by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Campbell County, just 15 miles south of the Kentucky state line. It is believed that Mills drove from Kentucky to Shannon, Mississippi, to take the children on Tuesday morning.

The youngsters were identified as Connor Sischer, age 8; Carsen Sischer, age 6; and Caisyn Sischer, age 2.  They are now in the custody of Tennessee Child Services.
