House Speaker releases polling on Mississippi issues
Oct. 16, 2024 – Mississippi House Speaker Jason White held his first Policy Summit on Sept. 24 that garnered more than 500 attendees, 20 speakers, and convened decision-makers from across the state and great political minds from across the country to achieve the shared objective, lessening the burden of tax on hardworking Mississippians. At the conclusion of the Policy Summit, attendees heard from Cygnal, one of the nation’s most accurate polling groups.

Mississippi is facing critical challenges and the House of Representatives is committed to doing the work that the people care about most.”

In the polling results, inflation and the economy were listed as the top priority at 33.3 percent. Eliminating the state income tax was next at 14.7 percent, followed by reducing or eliminating the state grocery tax at 14.0 percent. Other issues mentioned were crime and public safety, improving access to healthcare, restoring the initiative or ballot referendum process, infrastructure funding, and school choice.
Inflation and the economy were said to be the top priority for Republicans in the survey at 42.3 percent Eliminating the state income tax was next at 16.8 percent, followed by crime and public safety next at 13.2 percent.
