LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a devastating single-vehicle accident that left four people fighting for their lives Saturday night.
Lafayette County 911 dispatchers received a call at approximately 7:33 p.m. reporting a vehicle had veered off the road on County Road 313. Upon arrival, deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and crews from the Lafayette County Fire Department discovered a harrowing scene: a single car off the pavement with four occupants suffering from critical injuries.
The scale of the trauma required an immediate and coordinated “life-flight” response. Emergency personnel from the fire department and Priority Ambulance Service administered life-saving measures on-site while requesting four medical helicopters to the rural location.
According to officials, aircraft from Hospital Wing, Pafford Air, and Air Evac participated in the emergency transport. The logistics of the rescue divided the patients between two major regional hubs; three victims were flown to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, while the fourth was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis.
All four individuals remained in critical condition at the time of their transport.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division has taken the lead on the case. While the cause of the crash remains unknown, investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the vehicle leaving the roadway. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or indicated if road conditions or speed played a factor in the incident.
