Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo coach Will Lummus will once again be in the national spotlight over the next couple of weeks, as Lummus will compete in the upcoming Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
This is Lummus’ sixth straight trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, which is scheduled for Dec. 7-16 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Last season, he was named Reserve World Champion for steer wrestling, placing fourth in the average standings.
Lummus has continued to rank near the top of the world standings throughout the 2023 season, as he currently sits at No. 4 internationally. He has won seven events this season, including the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the Sheridan (Wyo.) Rodeo and earned a co-championship at the Southeastern Livestock Exposition in Montgomery, Ala.
In between competitions, Lummus has also successfully guided the Northwest rodeo program to success during the first half of the 2023-24 NIRA season. The Ranger men have placed in nearly every fall event, including an outright team win in the fall finale at Murray State prior to Thanksgiving. Lummus’ men’s rodeo group ranks second in the Ozark Region standings and No. 17 in the NIRA national rankings.
