Local players drafted in MLB draft, Jordan promoted

Area baseball players were selected during the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday, July 10 and again on Tuesday, July 11.
Another high draft choice from three years ago spent the day Monday packing to move up to Double-A ball in the Boston Red Sox organization.
In the draft on Monday, The Milwaukee Brewers chose Magnolia Heights shortstop Cooper Pratt in the sixth round. Pratt was part of another MAIS state championship team for the Chiefs this spring and has committed to Ole Miss.
The New York Yankees selected former DeSoto Central pitcher Cade Smith of Mississippi State in the sixth round.
And, Dalton Fowler, a Southaven native who played at Arlington (Tenn.) High School, Northwest Community College, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Memphis, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the ninth round. Fowler was AAC Pitcher of the Year this year and twice received conference weekly honors.
On Tuesday, July 11, another DeSoto County player was chosen in the MLB Draft, as University of Memphis player Dalton Kendrick of Hernando was picked by the Los Angeles Angels.
JORDAN PROMOTED WITH RED SOX: Infielder Blaze Jordan, who played high school baseball at DeSoto Central and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2020 draft, was promoted to Double-A Portland (Maine) of the Eastern League on Monday, July 10. Jordan had been blistering pitchers with his long-ball hitting with Class A+ Greenville, garnering his promotion to the next level of minor league baseball.
