Although the undefeated record came to an end over the weekend, the Northwest softball program remains at No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division II National Rankings, the organization announced Monday afternoon, March 6.
Navarro College handed Northwest its first loss of the season in last Saturday’s Nighthawk Round Robin in Hot Springs, Ark., but the Rangers retaliated with a 13-4 blowout of Allen County (Kan.), finishing the weekend 1-1.
Northwest now sits at 11-1 overall and continues to hold the highest ranking of any MACCC or Region 23 team. Copiah-Lincoln sits directly behind the Rangers at No. 5, followed by sixth-ranked Jones College and No. 10 LSU-Eunice.
Pearl River, Northeast and Itawamba round out MACCC programs in the national rankings, with the three programs slotted at No. 12, No. 13 and No. 17, respectively. Murray State (Okla.) continues to hold on to the No. 1 national spot with a 22-0 overall record, while Phoenix College and Des Moines Area rank second and third.
Northwest is scheduled to welcome Southwest Mississippi to Senatobia on Saturday, March 11, marking the conference-opening doubleheader for both teams. Saturday will also mark the Rangers’ return to their home field since February 6.
Game times are scheduled for 12/2 P.M. and live coverage will be provided on Ranger TV, as well as live stats here.
