Rangers Finish With Draw at Southern Union State
Sept. 10, 2024 – Thanks to a pair of goals from freshman Tyler Starnes and sophomore Soren Voges-Haupt, Northwest left Tuesday’s road match at Southern Union State with a 2-2 draw.
Northwest moved to 1-3-1 on the season with the tie, which is the first of coach Michael Sullivan’s tenure. The last time the Rangers had a match end in a draw was a 0-0 tie at Belhaven on October 4, 2021.
Hamm’s Two Goals Aid Northwest in Victory Against Southwestern Illinois
Sept. 10, 2024 – Despite falling behind in the 10th minute of Tuesday’s match against Southwestern Illinois, Northwest freshman Caroline Hamm broke the tie and later scored the final goal of the match, as No. 1 Northwest held on for a 3-1 victory.
Hamm’s two goals occurred in the 28th minute and 45th minute, helping the Lady Rangers take a 3-1 halftime lead. Mari Julia Delgado provided assists on both of her goals, with Caroline Chandler also contributing an assist in Hamm’s second goal.
Yaritza Trejo found the net in the 39th minute for her first goal of the season. Northwest finished the match with 32 total shots, with 20 shots on-goal, but the Lady Rangers were unable to score in the second half.
Southwestern Illinois finished with seven total shots, including five on-goal. Anna Brewer finished with 17 saves for the Blue Storm, while Anna Kathryn Harrell moved to 4-0 on the season with four saves and one goal allowed.
Delgado took eight of the Lady Rangers’ 10 corner kicks, while Southwestern Illinois was held to just three corner opportunities.
A combined 19 fouls occurred in the match, with 11 fouls whistled against Northwest. A total of six cautions were issued, with five coming against the Blue Storm. Trejo was the recipient of the Lady Rangers’ lone yellow card in the 68th minute.
Northwest will set its sights on Friday’s nationally-ranked matchup with St. Louis. The Lady Archers (3-1) come in ranked No. 13 in the latest NJCAA polls.
