By Brian Lentz, Northwest CC Sports Information Director

For the first time in nearly a month, there is movement in the polls for the Northwest softball team.

Despite suffering their first conference loss at East Central on Saturday, the Rangers moved up one spot to No. 3 in the NJCAA Division II Softball Rankings, released Monday afternoon. Northwest trails only Murray State College (Okla.) and Phoenix College in the top three, while Parkland College (Ill.) and Louisburg (N.C.) check in at fourth and fifth, respectively.

Northwest went 3-1 in last week’s games, earning a road conference sweep at Mississippi Delta, before leaving East Central with a split. The Rangers are now 18-2 on the season and 7-1 in MACCC play.

Other MACCC programs ranked include Copiah-Lincoln at No. 9, Jones College at No. 10 and Pearl River at No. 11. Northeast fell two spots to 15th in this week’s poll and Itawamba also dropped two slots to 17th. Additionally, Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice is ranked 12th, dropping one spot.

Northwest returns home to face Holmes on Wednesday, March 29 at 2/4 P.M., before traveling to Hinds on Saturday, April 1 for a 2/4 P.M. twinbill. Wednesday’s doubleheader can be seen on Ranger TV, while Saturday’s games at Hinds can be viewed at hindsccsports.net.
