Perfect Game Showdown features three DeSoto County teams
Three DeSoto County baseball teams are taking part in the prestigious Perfect Game High School Showdown to be played at the end of Feburary into early March.
The annual tournament is held at The Hoover Met Sports Complex in Hoover, Alabama. Dates for this year’s tournament are Feb. 29-March 2.
The teams that compete in the Showdown are paired into four different brackets, identified by color.
In the Blue bracket will be DeSoto Central, set to play Sparkman, Alabama in the first round on at 11 a.m. on Feb. 29
.
The Red Bracket will feature Hernando, playing Russell County, Alabama in the first round at 8 p.m. on Feb. 29.
Mississippi 6A state champion Lewisburg will be in the White bracket and will face Athens, Georgia in the initial round at 2 p.m. on Feb. 29.
Other Mississippi teams taking part in the tournament are from Madison Ridgeland Academy, Brandon, and Gulfport. The tournament features teams from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and provides an early season test for top high school baseball teams.
The Showdown website boasts of 3,187 college commitments having played in past tournaments, along with 26 Major League baseball players and 275 players who were drafted in the MLB Entry Draft.
