Following a 3-1 week that featured a split against East Mississippi and a sweep of Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Northwest baseball team has made its highest jump in the NJCAA Division II Rankings this season, moving up from 15th to No. 12.
Released Monday afternoon, April 22, the Rangers are joined in the latest rankings by second-ranked East Central, No. 3 Pearl River and 13th-ranked Jones College. (Meridian was also receiving votes, but unranked.)
Additionally, NJCAA Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice slid down a spot in the rankings from No. 3 to No. 4. Wallace-Dothan remained in the No. 1 slot, with Brunswick rounding out the top five.
Northwest improved to 35-13 overall following last week’s slate of games, the most wins recorded in a single season since 2007. That year, the Rangers advanced all the way to the NJCAA World Series, marking the last time Northwest has appeared on the national stage.
Just two regular season doubleheaders remain for the Rangers this week, both on the road. Northwest will visit Itawamba on Wednesday, April 24 at 3/6 P.M., before traveling to No. 3 Pearl River on Saturday, April 27 at 2/5 P.M.
Postseason competition is scheduled to begin May 3-5, with the Rangers expected to host a first-round best-of-three playoff series. More details on those games will be available when confirmed.
