Feb. 4, 2025-The Northwest Mississippi Community College tennis program is starting its second season as a program this spring but when season three starts next year, coach Andy Wolf will have a player from Northpoint Christian School on the women’s roster.
Northpoint senior RP Weatherly Tuesday morning signed a letter of intent to play for the Rangers. About a half-dozen schools were looking at Weatherly, but she said Northwest attracted her the most.
“I like the campus,” Weatherly said. “I like how it’s pretty small and I like how it’s close to home, and it’s not too far, so I can go home if I need to.”
Weatherly says she’s been playing tennis the past six years and looking forward to see how playing for the Rangers can grow her tennis talents.
“I’m excited that I get to play in junior college,” she said. “I’m blessed to have this opportunity. I’m really excited to see where my future is gonna lead to.”
Weatherly also looks forward to taking the court, especially as a singles player.
“I like singles better because it’s myself and in doubles, you have to kind of depend on the other person,” she said.
Weatherly’s future coach Wolf, who leads the Northwest tennis program, came to Senatobia from DeSoto Central, where he was tennis coach from 2021-23. While there, he helped DCHS to back-to-back district championships in 2022-23, with multiple players qualifying for individual state championship tournaments.
