Apr 7, 2025- Northpoint Christian School’s baseball Trojans, ranked third among Tennessee Division 2-A baseball teams this week, opened a two-game series with district rival Evangelical Christian School with an 8-2 victory.
Trojans’ pitcher KL Farr was dominant both on offense and on the mound in the five-hit, complete game victory. Farr struck out 11 on the hill and walked two. The Southern Miss recruit also got a strong defensive effort from his fielders, who committed just one error over seven innings. Jaylon Dickson offered two big plays from his right field position, one a diving catch to end the third inning and the other, a throw out from right of a runner to third that ended the sixth inning. Dickson also had the only extra-base hit, a double in the fifth inning.
“Striking out 11 is great because it takes the pressure off the defense,” said Northpoint coach Stephen Kirkpatrick. “It also minimizes pitch count and then you really have to make 10 outs in the field, so you feel good about some things.”
Kyle Mabie opened the scoring in the ECS first with a single after a six-pitch at-bat in the first. But Northpoint then scored runs in every inning except the fifth, with two runs in each of the first three frames, followed by single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, an offense powered by eight hits and aided by a pair of ECS errors. The Eagles rallied in the fifth for their only other run of the contest.
Jack Harrell scored twice and Farr went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Vail Perkins also drove in a pair of runs for the Trojans.
The two-game set concludes at Evangelical Christian Tuesday night. The Trojans improved to 15-4-1 with Monday’s victory.
SOFTBALL: Northpoint Christian 10, St. George’s (Collierville, Tenn.) 0: The Lady Trojans improved to 11-3 with the five-inning, run-rule victory Monday afternoon. Two runs scored in the fifth inning were enough for Northpoint to end the game in the fifth inning.
The Lady Trojans scored runs in every inning but the first, plating two runs in the second, three in each of the third and fourth innings, and then the two runs to end the game in the fifth.
Northpoint pitcher Ada Woodruff held the Lady Gryphons to just one hit and got help from a defense that committed just one error and an offense that offered nine hits. Woodruff struck out three and walked two in 2.1 innings. Trinity Garvin pitched two innings and fanned three.
Makenlee Bryant drove in three runs with a double among Northpoint’s nine hits.
SOFTBALL: Center Hill 11, Lake Cormorant 10: Center Hill survived a softball slugfest with an 11-10 victory over Lake Cormorant on Monday night. A seven-run fourth inning bolstered the Lady Mustangs offense that added two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The Lady Gators did score four runs in their half of the fourth after opening the game with an early 2-0 lead. Two runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh were scored by Lake Cormorant but Center Hill was able to prevent the tying run from scoring in the seventh.
The Lady Mustangs picked up 13 hits to make up for committing seven errors. Lake Cormorant had seven hits and four hits in the loss.
Lauryn Henderson and Juliet Davis had three hits each for Center Hill and Makayla Ramey had three RBIs. Davis and Reagan Ryan doubled; Henderson blasted a triple.
Lake Cormorant’s offense featured a triple from Aubrey Kirkpatrick. MaKenzie Nails scored twice and had three hits. Alivia Burns also scored two runs for the Lady Gators.
Ryan got the win in the circle with just one earned run in seven innings. Chatham Hamberlin took the loss with three of the 11 runs given up earned. Hamberlin also struck out eight Center Hill batters.
